Dr. Palin Khundongbam was awarded “The Indian Healthcare Ambassador of the Year” at the Six Sigma Healthcare Excellence Awards on 26th Dec, 2015 held at The Leela Ambience Hotel Gurgaon, India. The award ceremony was a part of the “World Entrepreneurship Summit in Healthcare -The Leaders who Inspire Healthcare”. The title was honored in recognition of his achievements, diligence and sustained contributions to the healthcare delivery system in the society and the neighboring country, Myanmar. His leadership throughout the journey from a mono practice to a 200 bedded super-specialty hospital with a vision towards changing the healthcare landscape of South East Asia has been remarkable. His professional excellence in the area of healthcare and his passion to translate his vision into reality has led him to extend his services to the neighboring country. The award acknowledged his initiatives to extend healthcare service to the neighboring country, Myanmar under “Mission Myanmar” which was conducted in three different phases. Free cleft lip and palate, key hole and cataract blindness operations were performed at Monywa General Hospital, Myanmar during the mission. The surgery camps were jointly organized by Government of Sagaing (Myanmar), Government of Manipur, Indian Consul General, Mandalay, Smile Train Shija Cleft Project, Shija Eye Care Foundation and AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India). Also, 2 surgeons and 6 nurses of Monywa General Hospital, Myanmar were given 3 months free of cost training on Key-Hole Surgery and Critical Care at Shija Hospitals under Shija Overseas Training Program. All these initiatives have ultimately developed goodwill between the two nations.
